RETHINKING TEAM

For years we have bemoaned the “silos” and team-dynamic frustrations of working on a church staff – with little actual effective tools and resources to collaborate across program areas being offered. For too long church staffs have relied on “let’s work together better” as a strategy with no real tangible results. Additionally, the burnout rates of church staff members (and especially clergy) are spiking across the country.

IT'S TIME TO RETHINK TEAM

The “Rethinking Team” workshop is an opportunity for your team to pause, assess strengths and recalibrate their working functions. During the “Rethinking Team” sessions, we will walk through a powerful tool for productivity, teamwork and joy discovery called the “6 Types of Working Genius.” This model was created by Patrick Lencioni and has been deployed in companies, organizations and churches across the world. Using the assessment and findings as a building block, we will work specifically with your team to craft tangible next steps for their work together. Sprinkling in some Enneagram wisdom, team dysfunction research and leadership expertise, the time together will be  informative, revelatory and inspiring.

This is not a stock “seminar” to be consumed by your team, this is an engaging and cooperative effort to build on the strengths and gifts of the team. Utilizing open conversation and dreaming, modeling vulnerability and allowing the team to express fears, frustration and values, the time together will certainly be beneficial.

The workshop is designed to take place over two separate sessions, separated by about a month. Each session is 3-hours long and is fast-paced, engaging and fun.

Session #1

9 am – “What’s the Problem?”

10 am – An Introduction to “The 6 Types of Working Genius”

11 am – “Team Impact, What’s Next and a Big Challenge”

12 pm – End

Session #2

9 am – “Digging Deeper”

10 am – “Creative Destruction”

11 am – “Creating Imagination” (Practical Next Steps)

12pm – End

The single biggest differentiator between “Rethinking Team” is the focus on process combined with personality. While the “Working Genius” has components of “self-discovery,” the emphasis is on how each persons unique God-given gifts might yield a more productive and joy-filled team. And while the “Rethinking Team” program uses the Working Genius as a tool, it is more robust that a “Working Genius” training session. It incorporates elements from a variety of resources and lived-experience from the facilitator while offering interactive and collaborative process for you team to give input into the next season together.

Here’s what others are saying about “Rethinking Team”:

“From the start, it was clear that Evan had done his homework—he arrived with a detailed slide deck, charts and a deep understanding of our team’s individual strengths and weaknesses. His thorough prep allowed him to tailor insights specifically to our team structure, highlighting unique strengths and offering guidance on how we could better support each team member’s role.”

“Rev. Evan Jones brought the Working Genius to life for our team. While we had read the books and explored our own geniuses and frustrations – Evan helped us to put this new knowledge into action. Our discussions in the workshop and in the days that followed encouraged us to embrace each other’s areas of joy and genius, while also giving us permission to share the things that were holding us back with our teammates.”

  • Rev. Stacey Piyakhun | Director of Multiplication

Horizon Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church

“Working with Evan as he introduced the staff at University Park United Methodist Church was incredibly impactful on our team, so much so that we completely reorganized our monthly meeting cadences around the principles taught by Working Genius. I cannot recommend him highly enough!”

  • Rev. Dr. Joe Stobaugh | Senior Minister

University Park United Methodist Church (Dallas)

“Evan’s engaging presentation opened new doors for teamwork, communication, and understanding. His work 1-1 with me immediately influenced how I was managing certain staff, and an immediate shift in their responsibilities. I highly recommend folks do this work.”
